WF77: Create FMEA Import Configuration

Detailed Steps

  1. Open Application Preferences (Task Menu: Preferences > Application Preferences).
  2. Select FMEA Data tab (Task Menu: Preferences > Application Preferences > Modeling > Import > FMEA Data).
  3. Click the '+' icon to create a new FMEA import configuration.
  4. Define Import Configuration Details — Name, Description.
  5. Define Item Mapping — enter the worksheet name that contains item information and the number of header rows in the import document. Properties marked * are mandatory mappings. Item properties include: Worksheet, Header Rows, *Item Name, *Item Number, Delay Time (hrs), Distribution Type, Duration of operation, Exponential - MTTF, Exponential - Part Failure Rate, Is Critical, LCN, MTTR, Parent Item Number, Physical Description, Safety Item?, Spares on Hand, Turn Around Time (hrs), Weibull - Slope, Weibull - Characteristic Life.
  6. Define FMEA Mapping — enter the worksheet name that contains FMEA information and the number of header rows in the import document. Properties marked * are mandatory mappings. FMEA properties include: Worksheet, Header Rows, *Item Number, *Function, *Failure Mode, *Failure Mode ID, Failure Cause, Local Effects, Next Effects, End Effect, Detection Methods, Compensating Provisions, Prevention Controls, Substantiation Actions, Narrative, Comment, Parent Item Number, plus:
    • MIL-STD-1629A properties: severity class, failure effect probability, failure mode ratio, failure rate, operating time, probability of occurrence, failure mode criticality number, item criticality number.
    • MIL-STD-882E properties: probability, probability level, risk assessment code, severity, severity category.
    • RPN properties: detection, occurrence, risk priority number, severity.
  7. Import configuration is created and ready for use in Model-Based RCM (see WF75: Create a Model-based RCM analysis).

Screen-by-screen detail (from embedded screenshots)

  • Step 1: Open Application Preferences — Main menu: Preferences > Application Preferences (alongside Project Preferences, Annotation Policy, Library Management, Modeling Preferences, Organization Details, Warning Preferences, Bond Analysis Preferences, FCM Threshold Preferences, Criticality Profile Editor, Customize Taxonomy).
  • Step 2: Select FMEA Data Tab — Preferences (Filtered) tree: Modeling > Contributor Roles, Failure Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis, Import > Component, FMEA Data [selected], Maintenance Action, Requirement; Maintenance Locations, Maintenance Personnel, Status Text, Tool-tips; Organization Details, Problems, Propagation Table, Reporting, Teamcenter, User Profile. Right panel "FMEA Data" > "FMEA Data Import Configurations" table (Default, Name, Columns) with add/edit/copy/delete icons.
  • Step 3: Create a New Configuration — Click the green '+' icon.
  • Step 4: Define Import Configuration Details — "FMEA Data Import Configuration" dialog: Name (e.g. "FMEA Import for demo"), Description (e.g. "Narrative for demo"). Two tabs: "Item" and "FMECA Data". Warning shown initially: "There are no configured columns for any of the worksheets in the fmea data import configuration."
  • Step 5: Define Item Mapping — On the "Item" tab: Worksheet (e.g. "Sheet1"), Header Rows (e.g. 1). Column mapping table (Column, Name, MADE Property, Type, Validation, Configuration) — example: Column A -> MADE Property "Item Name" (Text, Validation "Non-empty"); Column B -> "Item Number" (Text, Validation "Non-empty"). Add rows via the green '+' icon.
  • Step 6: Define FMEA Mapping — On the "FMECA Data" tab: Worksheet (e.g. "Sheet1"), Header Rows (e.g. 1). Column mapping table example: Column A -> "Item Number" (Text, N/A); Column B -> "Function" (Text, N/A); Column C -> "Failure Mode" (Text, N/A).
  • Step 7: Import Configuration is Created — Back in "FMEA Data Import Configurations" list, the new configuration appears (e.g. "FMEA Import for demo", marked Default, Columns "5"). Click Apply and Close.
