3 FMEA Data Configuration

This functionality creates a mapping of properties (source file & MADE), which can then be used to import items and failure mode information into MADE.

Properties related to the items (Model Item / Reliability Data Fields) and failure modes (FMECA Data Fields) are shown below. The item number is the key property that ties together all the properties.

3.1 Step-by-Step Process Flow

The process flow describes the steps to create a configuration to import FMEA information.

Step 1: Select Preferences from the MADE menu and Select Application Preferences from the menu

FMEA import configurations are listed and saved at the application level. These are accessible for reuse throughout all the projects.

To access: Navigate to Task Menu and select Preferences > Application Preferences.

Figure 3 shows the Preferences menu: Application Preferences, Project Preferences; Annotation Policy, Library Management, Modeling Preferences, Organization Details, Warning Preferences; Bond Analysis Preferences, FCM Threshold Preferences; Criticality Profile Editor; Customize Taxonomy.

Step 2: Select FMEA Data from the menu

To access: Select Modeling > Import > FMEA Data.

Figure 4 shows the Preferences (Filtered) dialog with left tree: Annotation Policy, Auto Save, Features, General, Language, Libraries, Modeling > Failure Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis, Import > Component, FMEA Data, Maintenance Action, Requirement, Maintenance Locations, Maintenance Personnel, Maintenance Type Terms, Status Text, Tool-tips; Organization Details, Problems, Propagation Table, RCM, Reporting, User Profile. Right panel "FMEA Data" shows an empty "FMEA Data Import Configurations" table (Default/Name/Columns columns) with create/edit/copy/export/import/delete icon buttons.

Step 3: Manage FMEA Import Configurations

The FMEA Data page lists all the FMEA import configurations created and includes the ability to create new/edit/copy/delete configurations.

Figure 5 shows the FMEA Data page with one existing configuration: Default ✓, Name = "FMEA Import", Columns = 14.

To create a new configuration: Click the plus icon — it opens a new window.

Figure 6 ("FMEA Data import configuration window") shows the "FMEA Data Import Configuration" dialog: Name field (empty, with error "A name must be specified for the fmea data import configuration"), Description field, tabs Item / FMECA Data; Item tab: Worksheet field, Header Rows = 0, and an empty mapping table with columns Column/Name/MADE Property/Type/Validation/Configuration.

To edit a configuration: Select a configuration, click the edit icon.

To copy a configuration: Select a configuration, click the copy icon.

To delete a configuration: Select a configuration, click the delete icon.

To open a configuration: Double-click on a configuration.

After creating a configuration, select the checkbox in the Default column to set it as the default configuration for importing items and FMEA information.

Step 4: Define Configuration Details

To complete this:

  • Click the plus icon to create a new configuration
  • Enter a name for the configuration
  • Enter a description for the configuration

Figure 7 shows Name = "FMEA Import 1", Description = "Sample FMEA import configuration".

Note: The OK button in the FMEA Data import configuration window is enabled when all the mandatory mappings are created.

Step 5: Complete the Mapping to Import Item Information

The Item tab in the FMEA Data Import Configuration window allows the user to map item-related properties from source file and MADE. This involves specifying the sheet containing item information, the header row number, and mapping the columns in source with MADE properties.

The FMECA Data tab in the FMEA Data Import Configuration window allows the user to map FMEA information from source file and MADE. This involves specifying the sheet containing the information, the header row number, and mapping the columns in source with MADE properties. Item number property is the key property that ties item and FMECA information together.
