10 Advanced Properties

Advanced Properties can be accessed for parts, part-pairs, components, subsystems and the top-level system. The advanced properties editor provides fields for providing detailed item information and attaching relevant files and documentation.

To open the advanced properties editor of an item in the system model:

• Select (Right-click) an item in the system model
• Select the Advanced Properties option from the right-click menu

The right-click menu on a component (e.g. Diesel Engine) lists: System Model, Failure Diagram, Functions, Maintenance Actions, Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Zoom In, Zoom Out, End Effect Item, Response Paths, Propagate All..., Override Failure Diagram, Failure Injection, Response Simulation, Load from Library, Save to Library, Advanced Properties.

Subsystem and component Advanced Properties editors are divided into three pages:

1. Overview
2. Maintenance Actions
3. Product Characteristics

The System Advanced Properties editor contains an additional Environment page, while parts only contain the Overview page (Part-pairs do not have an Advanced Properties editor).

10.1 Overview Page

The Overview page consists of sections that are used to describe or add further detail to a model item. These six sections are described below.

Operational	Mission Profile	Drop-down menu to select active mission profile/group.
	Item duration	Time-duration the item is in operation (set automatically from if mission profile is present).
	Mission cycles	Number of cycles for the selected mission profile.
	Initial operating age	Current age of the item at the start of the mission profile.
	Duration of operation	Time duration that an item is operational during a mission profile.
Synonyms	-	List displaying item synonyms.
Documents	-	List displaying attached documents relevant to the item.
Drawing	Drawing Reference Number	CAD Reference number of the item.
	Reference Drawing	CAD drawing name of the item.
Digital Image	Location	Location of digital image file of the item.
Icon	Location	Location of icon file of the item.

10.1.1 Edit Component Details

This section allows the user to edit general information about the item. If an item number is entered, this is captured in the reporting outputs. Physical description and functional narrative areas provide space for more detailed information about the configuration (physical) and principles of operation (function) of the item.

The Details section shows: Created / Created by, Modified / Modified by; Item Name; Item Number; LCN; Vendor Name; Vendor Number; Physical Description; Criticality Flag checkboxes (Critical Item, Mission Critical, Safety Item, Loss of System); Replaceable checkboxes (LRU, SRU (Shop/System Replaceable Unit)); Diagnostic Group dropdown (default "None").

LRUs and SRUs are indicated on the system model with a dashed, grey outline (e.g. the Control Unit component shown with a dashed border).

10.1.2 Insert Synonyms and Documents

The user may enter synonyms which will assist in searching and managing the component library e.g. matching CAD drawing items to pre-existing model items in the component library. Documentation may also be attached to the item as a reference e.g. product specifications or maintenance records.

To attach a synonym and/or document:

• Open the Advanced Properties editor.
• Under the Overview tab, select the plus (+) icon
• For synonyms, enter the synonym text in the dialog then select OK
• For documents, enter the file path in the dialog then select OK

Example: Synonyms list shows "Diesel Model 1"; Documents list shows "Fault Tree - Event List 2025-02-0...". Additional buttons are provided to open, export and delete synonyms and documents.

10.1.3 View Component Model and Functions

The top-right corner of the advanced properties editor provides direct links (buttons) labeled System Model and Functions to open the system model and functions editor of the item.

10.1.4 Define Component Operation

Details of the operating mode including the mission profile, item duration, mission cycles, initial operating age (obtained from the mission profile feature), and component duration of operation which can be set by the user. The duration of operation and MTTR are used in reliability and availability analysis.

Example Operational section: Mission Profile = "New Group"; Mission Profile Group Duration (hrs) = 91.09722; Mission Cycles = N/A; Duration of Operation (hrs) = 91.09722.

10.1.5 Attach Drawings & Drawing Information

Fields are provided for the user to enter the name of the relevant engineering drawing for the item. A PDF or image format of a drawing/schematic may be uploaded and saved as a property of the item. The Drawing section allows users to enter alphanumeric details regarding drawings, while the Digital Image and Icon sections allow users to select a file path to display images and icons for an item respectively (Drawing Reference Number, Reference Drawing fields; Digital Image Location with Browse/Clear buttons; Icon Location with Browse/Clear buttons).

10.2 Maintenance Actions Page

The maintenance actions page lists the type(s) of maintenance and specific maintenance details (e.g. maintenance tasks, personnel, etc.) performed on an item. This page consists of three sections, described below.

	Description	Field for describing the maintenance action.
	Location of Maintenance	Menu for selecting the location of the maintenance action (Local Depot, Remote Depot, Field).
	Maintenance Type	Menu for selecting the type of maintenance (Breakdown, Failure-Finding, Scheduled, Condition-based).
	Maintenance Sub-type	Menu for selecting the sub-type of maintenance (Repair, Replace, Service, Lubrication, Inspection).
	Continuous Monitoring	When condition-based maintenance is selected, selecting the continuous monitoring toggle will disable the inspection interval field.
	Maintenance Interval	Field for entering the meantime between maintenance.
	Inspection Interval	Field for entering the meantime between inspections.
	Inspection/Maintenance Table	A table containing a list of tasks, personnel and associated costs for maintenance, inspection and maintenance-related equipment/consumables.
Maintenance Actions	-	A table displaying created maintenance actions. Allows for creating, copying, importing, sorting, and deleting maintenance actions.

10.3 Product Characteristics Page

The Product Characteristics page is the third tab in the Advanced Maintenance Properties editor. This page contains specific fields to enter relevant item information. This page contains seven sections, based on National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Critical Item List (CIL) document formats:

The page groups these into visual panels: Product Data (Design Description and Rationale, Failure History, Operational Use), Subsystem (Effects on Subsystem, Redundancy Screen, Pass/Fail), Test (Acceptance, Qualification), Interface (Effects on Interface, Redundancy Screen, Pass/Fail), Inspection (Receiving, Assembly/Installation, Testing, Contamination Control), Mission (Effects on Mission, Redundancy Screen, Pass/Fail), Human/System (Effects on Human/System, Redundancy Screen, Pass/Fail). Each free-text field has an edit icon and expandable text area; each Pass/Fail field is a radio button pair.
