15 Troubleshooting

MADE has several features that notify the user of an error in the software or inconsistencies in the modelling process.

15.1 Error Reporting

MADE contains a built-in error reporting dialog which allows the user to send via email a code generated by a MADE error to relevant IT personnel in PHM Technology.

The error dialog ("Uh-oh!") reads: "Something unexpected happened, it is recommended you save your work and restart MADE." with a secondary message "Please report the problem to help us get to the bottom of it." Buttons: Report Problem, Continue.

Selecting the Report Problem button will open the Send Bug Report dialog. Selecting the Continue button will close the error reporting dialog allowing the user to continue using MADE.

The Send Bug Report dialog ("The reply-to email address is empty, enter a valid email address to proceed.") contains: Contact Information (Full Name, Organization, Reply-to Email fields) and a free-text area: "Please describe the actions you were performing when the problem occurred." Navigation buttons: Back, Next, Finish, Cancel.

15.2 Warnings & Errors

MADE displays warnings and errors using the Problems viewer. This viewer can be accessed from the main menu by selecting Windows → Open View → Problems. The sections below explain the differences between warnings and errors.

15.2.1 Warnings

Warnings refer to issues or inconsistencies in the MADE model such as missing functions, connections, disconnected flows and so on.

Warning	Description
Ambiguous Propagation Table	Occurs when a propagation table has one or more ambiguity groups i.e. two or more response paths have similar failure responses. This means a sensor analysis would generate sensor sets with limited coverage of failures in the system. This warning can be resolved by reconfiguring the FBD model.
Disconnected Failure Concept	Occurs for a disconnected failure concept (cause, mechanism, fault or symptom) in a Failure Diagram. This warning can be resolved by connecting the failure concept or deleting it.
Disconnected Flow Property	Occurs when a selected flow property in a Functions editor is not connected to another flow property. This warning can be resolved by connecting the flow connection in the system model to another item.
Disconnected Function Flow	Occurs when a flow in the Functions editor is not connected to another flow or item. This warning can be resolved by connecting at least one of its flow properties to another flow property.
Failure Conditions have not been specified on connected Faults	Occurs when a Fault has been connected to a Failure Mode in the Failure Diagram, but no failure conditions have been specified in either failure concept. This warning can be resolved by defining failure conditions on either the fault or failure condition.
No Functions Defined	Occurs for an item in the system model when no functions have been defined in the Functions editor. This warning can be resolved by defining at least one function in the Functions editor.
Sensor Set out of Sync	Occurs when the diagnostic sets, ambiguity groups and sensor set coverage are not up to date for the sensor set. This is due to a change in the sensor set structure from adding or removing sensors, or by changing the propagation table. This warning can be resolved by selecting the "re-analyze" icon in the Sensor Sets page to update all related information about that sensor set.

15.2.2 Locating Warnings & Errors

The user can view warnings and errors selected from the Problems viewer in its relevant editor e.g. system model or failure diagram editor.

To locate a warning:

• Open the Problems viewer
• Expand the Warnings or Errors category by selecting the horizontal arrow
• Right-click a warning or error and select 'Go to' from the menu

Depending on the warning/error type, it will highlight the item within a specified editor. Example: the Problems viewer shows "Errors (1 of 1 items)" and "Warnings (1 of 1 items)" with entry "Convert (New Component) is missing a flow"; right-click menu options: Go to..., Hide Warning.

15.2.3 Displaying Warnings & Errors

The user can choose to ignore currently displayed warnings/errors in the Problems viewer. Ignoring a warning/error will hide all selected warning/errors.

To ignore a warning/error:

• Open the Problems viewer
• Expand the Warnings or Errors category by selecting the horizontal arrow
• Right-click a warning/error then select Ignore Warning

Conversely, the user can choose to view all ignored warnings/errors in the Problems viewer.

To show all warnings/errors:

• Open the Problems viewer
• Right-click on any part of the viewer table and select Show all Warnings
