2. Introduction

2.1 Safety and Risk Assessment (SRA)

This manual provides information about the features and workflows required for a user to conduct safety and criticality analyses using the SRA module. The purpose of this manual is to familiarize the user with the features and functionality of the SRA module.

To access the SRA module:

  • Select the SRA icon in the icon menu, or
  • Select View > Open Module > SRA

2.1.1 Objectives

The main objective of this manual is to describe how the SRA module is used for the following:

  • Entering criticality factors using the Criticality & Reliability Editor
  • Analyzing the criticality of the Functional Block Diagram (FBD) system model using: FMEA Reports, FMECA Reports, Critical Item Analysis editor
  • Analyzing the FBD system model using Functional Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)

2.1.2 System Example

This manual uses the Vehicle Platform (an exemplar model and should not be used for commercial purposes) located in the MADE Example Systems Library. Using a different model will result in different analysis times, hierarchical structure, and may not feature all the necessary data to fully demonstrate features in the SRA module.

2.2 User Workflows

The workflows explain steps required to:

  • Assign and edit criticality factors using the Criticality & Reliability Editor (Figure 3)
  • Generate FMEA/FMECA results (Figure 4)
  • Determine critical items using the Critical Item analysis editor (Figure 5)
  • Generate a functional fault tree analysis (FTA) (Figure 6)
