System element definitions
This KBA provides definitions of different system elements in MADE.
The table below lists the types of elements that populate the system model and their respective descriptions.
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| System | A grouping of sub-systems, components and parts which interact to fulfill a common function. A system is the highest level of indenture within a MADE project. |
| Subsystem | A grouping of components, sub-systems or parts that work together to fulfill a common function. |
| Component | A model item that performs a function and forms part of a larger system. |
| Part-pair | The combination of two parts, created by assigning a physical connection between them. A pair possesses functions and failures, and may be connected up to the functional failure mode of a component. |
| Part | The lowest possible level of hierarchy in the MADE system model. A part on its own does not perform a function, however its physical characteristics and environmental factors can be defined. |
Icons in the system model UI indicate how to create a new subsystem, component, or part. Alternatively, you can create new elements by right-clicking on blank space of the system model.
