4.6.5 Sensor Sets Analysis Page
The Sensor Sets Analysis page is where the automated sensor analysis is generated. The user can view the Sensor Sets that are automatically generated based on the analysis parameters set. This page is accessed once the propagation focuses, propagation table, inclusions and exclusions have been finalized by the user. The page mainly consists of a table displaying a list of "sensor sets", with each sensor set containing detectable flow properties that the user can allocate sensors to.
The page consists of four main sections: Display Options, Analysis Parameters, Sensor Set Details, and Sensor Sets.
4.6.5.1 Display Options Section
This section displays a checkbox with a description titled "Include Legacy Sensor Set". Selecting this checkbox will include the Legacy Sensor Set (which contains component/subsystem test point sensors) in the Sensor Sets table. The Legacy Sensor Set is used as a baseline when comparing it to analysis sensor sets, and including it will display the Test Point and Coverage delta columns.
Note: Legacy sensor sets with test point sensors are shown in the table.
4.6.5.2 Analysis Parameters Section
This section displays a list of options that the user can set to limit aspects of the diagnostic analysis. The main parameters to set include coverage, limits for number of test points and sensor sets, and the number of iterations required when generating sensor sets using built-in algorithms.
To specify or limit the coverage required for a sensor set analysis:
- Select the checkbox to limit coverage
- Enter target coverage using the number field or use the spinner to increase/decrease values
The next option limits the number of test points required for each diagnostic analysis sensor set.
To specify or limit the number of test points required for a sensor set analysis:
- Select the checkbox to limit test points
- Enter a value to specify the number of test points required using the number field or use the spinner to increase/decrease values
- Enter a value to specify the distribution range (limited to 1-10), e.g. specifying 7 test points with a range +/- of 1 will prioritize sensor set results with a range of 6-8 sensed test points
The next sensor set options are analysis options which specify the number of sets that are generated. The depth of analysis selected will influence the analysis time due to the number of iterations before the genetic algorithm terminates. A higher number of iterations may produce better sensor sets with better fitness.
To specify the number of sets and analysis depth:
- Enter a value to specify the number of sets required using the drop-down menu (choose between 10, 25, 50 or 100)
- Select the drop-down menu to select the depth of analysis: Low (1,000 iterations), Moderate (10,000 iterations), or High (100,000 iterations)
Once required parameters and options have been set, the user selects Analyze for the automated diagnostic sensor set analysis to begin and fill in the Sensor Sets table. A status dialog may appear for large analyses.
4.6.5.3 Sensor Sets Section
This section displays a table of all sensor sets generated for the analysis using predefined parameters. The table is organized hierarchically, where each sensor set can be expanded to show a list of sensed test points (flow properties), and each test point can be further expanded to show a list of allocated sensors.

| Star | Displays starred sensor sets which are not modified by further analysis and are available for selection in the later stages of the automated diagnostic analysis. |
| Sensed Test Points | The number of Test Points that have at least one sensor assigned compared to the total number of Test Points included in a sensor set. This does not include symptom-based test points. |
| Test Point (delta) | The difference in test points between a Sensor Set and the Legacy Sensor Set. |
| Set Coverage | The maximum possible coverage of failures in a sensor set if all included test points have sensors allocated. |
| Coverage (delta) | The difference in coverage between a sensor set and the legacy sensor set. |
| Fitness | A score calculated for each sensor set based on the analysis parameters. Sensor sets with higher fitness values will more closely meet the selected analysis parameters. |
To save (star) a Sensor Set for future analysis:
- Select a sensor set in the Sensor Sets table
- Left-click the disabled star icon in the second column to change it to the enabled state to save the sensor set for future analysis
- Left-click the enabled star icon again to change it to the disabled state, which will not save the sensor set for future analysis
To export a Sensor Set:
- Select a sensor set in the Sensor Sets table
- Select the export button
- Verify that an Export Group (sensor set) is created for the exported sensor set
To delete unlocked Sensor Sets:
- Verify that a sensor analysis has generated sensor sets in the table
- Ensure there are starred sensor sets in the analysis (otherwise all sensor sets will be deleted)
- Select Delete to remove un-starred sensor sets from the current analysis
4.6.5.3.1 Sensor Sets Details Section
This section displays the sensor set Name and Description fields. These fields are read-only for automatically generated sensor sets but become editable once a sensor set is starred.
To edit sensor set details:
- Select a starred sensor set from the Sensor Set table
- Select the Name and Description fields to enter changes
- Save changes
4.6.6 Ambiguity Groups Page
The Ambiguity Groups page displays a list of sensor sets which contain ambiguous flow responses, i.e. failures that cannot be currently distinguished using allocated sensors. By listing them, the user can resolve ambiguous flow responses by excluding specific failures.
Example (from the source guide): Analysis 11 — Set 1 contains two failures from the Coupling 1 and Secondary Fuel Filter components that have the same sensed failure response, and are thus flagged as ambiguous. If the user knows that in practice they can distinguish between these two failures, they may choose to exclude one of the failures so that it is not included in the analysis.
The page is divided into three sections: Ambiguity Settings, Sensor Sets, and Ambiguity Group.
4.6.6.1 Ambiguity Settings Section
This section contains options to filter or limit ambiguous sensor sets based on criticality type and minimum group size.
To set these ambiguity settings:
- Select the Criticality type drop-down menu and select a criticality method to filter sets
- Enter a minimum group size (number of ambiguous failure responses) in the numerical field
4.6.6.2 Sensor Sets Section
This section contains a table which displays a list of sensor sets and their respective ambiguity groups. Each sensor set can be expanded to show one or more ambiguity groups. Expanding each ambiguity group displays a list of ambiguous failures in the Ambiguity Group table.

| Coverage | The coverage of the Sensor Set, or additional coverage gained by resolving the ambiguity group. |
| Criticality | The maximum criticality of the failures in the Sensor Set or Ambiguity group. |
4.6.6.3 Ambiguity Group Section
The Ambiguity Group section displays a table showing information about an ambiguity group selected in the Sensor Sets table. Additional failure information includes components involved, flow properties, failure responses and the criticality value of the failure. The user may choose to address the ambiguity by excluding the cause (flow property) of the ambiguity or reconfiguring the allocated sensors. The result of these exclusion methods is an increase in sensor set coverage.
To exclude an ambiguity:
- Select an Ambiguity Group from the Sensor Sets table
- Select (right-click) an ambiguous failure in the Ambiguity Group table
- Select Exclude Cause from the right-click menu
To export data from the Ambiguity Group table:
- Select the export icon
- Choose between Numeric and Text CSV Export
- Choose a directory in the Export dialog
