Create and Use Custom Data Libraries in MADE
How to create, use, and tailor a custom MADE library for data reuse.
Steps
- Ensure the Library tab is visible (likely located at the bottom-left corner of MADE). If it is not visible, add it to your visible tabs by navigating to View > Open View > Library and select Library.
- Create and add your library by navigating to Preferences menu > Library Management and select Create Library.
- Select Browse to choose a file location to store the library database. Click Next.
- Input a unique Library Name and unique Database Name (no spaces or special characters).
- Tip: do not use the default "made" database name — it could be overwritten if used in another library within the same directory.
- If you want to apply a username and password, deselect "use default MADE login?" and input your chosen Username and Password (optional).
- Click Validate Settings to check that all names and information are valid and not previously used in your directory.
- Click Finish.
- Your new library should now show in the Library Management list. Check the box for your new library to enable it. Select Apply and Close.
- Note: you can make and enable multiple libraries; all will be listed here, and all libraries will show in the Library tab in MADE.
- Get familiar with organizing your library:
- To enable / disable libraries quickly, select the library, right-click, select Connect / Disconnect.
- Green icons are enabled; gray are disabled libraries; red are libraries whose database has been deleted.
- Each library comes with default sub-folder categories to organize your model elements: Components, Parts, Systems.
- To create unique categories, right-click on the library and go to New > Category and input the folder category name.
- Add model elements to your library (works in both the Project Explorer and the System Diagram canvas):
- Select and right-click on the element you want to save to the library, select Save to Library.
- Click-and-drag the model element(s) to the Library and folder category of choice. Use the Ctrl key to select and drag multiple elements.
- Using the model elements saved in your library:
- Open the model and project of choice. Navigate to the system position that you want to inject the saved model element(s) into.
- In the Library tab, find the model element(s) you want to inject. Click-and-drag the element(s) into the System Diagram canvas.
- Note: the injected model element(s) will include all data associated with the element that was saved with it (e.g., failure rates, functions, flows, maintenance tasks, etc.). Tailor if/as needed.
- Note: changes made to the element(s) in the model do NOT affect the saved element(s) in the library. To update the saved element(s), repeat step 7 with the new data.
