4.2 Accessibility

The Model-Based RCM analysis is accessible from the RAM module. To open the MBRCM editor:

  1. Ensure that MADE is set to the RAM module (View > Open Module > RAM)
  2. Select Analyses > Model-Based RCM in the main menu (Figure 11)

Upon opening the MBRCM editor, the default display shows the RCM management page, which lists all analyses and their details upon selection (Figure 12).

4.3 RCM Management

The RCM Management tab features the ability to create, edit, delete, and manage RCM analyses for the project. The tab consists of a table that displays a list of previously created RCM analyses. To the left of the table are icons for creating new RCM analyses, and copying, opening, updating, or deleting the selected RCM analyses.

MBRCM supports both MSG3 and RCM II configurations, which define the decision trees used to determine the following:

  • Significant functions of maintainable items
  • Failure classification of failure modes associated with significant functions
  • Task evaluation and task feasibility decision logic

MBRCM also allows the import of custom configurations to support program-specific RCM processes (refer to Application Preferences > RCM Configurations, section 4.14.2).

MBRCM includes the ability to source FMEA data from either an excel file or generated directly from the MADE model. The FMEA excel import workflow allows importing Maintainable Items, Functions, Failure Modes, Reliability, and Criticality parameters and requires setting up a data mapping configuration (refer to "WF77 - Create FMEA Import Configuration" user guide for detailed steps). When the MADE model is chosen as the source, the FMEA data is generated for the chosen FMEA standards (MIL-STD-1629A, MIL-STD-882E, or RPN).

4.3.1 Create an analysis using FMEA data import

To create a new RCM analysis using the FMEA data import workflow:

  1. Click New in the RCM Management tab
  2. Enter an RCM analysis name: e.g. "Analysis 1" (Figure 13)
  3. Add a description about the RCM analysis or system operation: e.g. "RCM Analysis on Vehicle System using FMEA import methodology."
  4. Select an RCM Configuration: e.g. MSG-3
  5. Select a Methodology: FMEA data import
  6. Click Next
  7. Define a System name: e.g. "Vehicle System" (Figure 14). By default, System name is the same as the analysis name.
  8. Browse and select an excel file that contains FMEA
  9. Select an import configuration: e.g. "FMEA Import for Vehicle System"
  10. Click Next to view the imported data (Figure 15)
  11. Click Finish to close the dialog and create the RCM analysis

Note: MADE will prompt to choose a contributor after clicking Finish. This ensures that any changes made within the analysis will be attributed to the chosen contributor. Select an existing contributor, if present, or create new ones from the dialog or at a later stage in the analysis. Refer to section 4.4.2 (Contributors) for steps on how to create new contributors and assign them to the analysis.

The newly created RCM analysis will now appear in the table on the RCM Management page (Figure 20).

4.3.2 Create an analysis using Model-Based FMEA

To create a new RCM analysis using the MADE model:

  1. Click New in the RCM Management tab
  2. Enter an RCM analysis name: e.g. "Analysis 2" (Figure 16)
  3. Add a description about the RCM analysis or system operation: e.g. "RCM Analysis on Vehicle System using the MADE model."
  4. Select an RCM Configuration: e.g. MSG-3
  5. Select a Methodology: Model-Based FMEA
  6. Select FMEA type for which a FMEA will be generated from the model and attached to the analysis: e.g. CA (MIL-STD-1629A, Quantitative Standard)
  7. Click Next
  8. Select Analysis Options using which the FMEA will be generated from the model (Figure 17):
    • Level of analysis: System
    • Propagation method: FCM
    • Set Output options & Path Control Number
    • Analysis Context Summary: End Effect: Vehicle System; System: Vehicle System; Criticality Profile: PHMT 1629A Criticality
  9. Click Next
  10. Set Criticality Threshold (if required) to limit the inclusion of failure modes in the analysis (Figure 18)
  11. Click Next to view the imported data (Figure 19)
  12. Click Finish to close the dialog and create the RCM analysis

Note: MADE will prompt to choose a contributor after clicking Finish, same as above.

The newly created RCM analysis will now appear in the table on the RCM Management page (Figure 20).

To open an RCM analysis

  1. Select an RCM analysis in the table
  2. Click Open
  3. Click Cancel in the new dialog to choose Current Contributor (Figure 21)

Note: If a contributor is not assigned, MADE will prompt to choose a contributor after clicking Finish, attributing subsequent changes to that contributor.

To copy an RCM analysis

  1. Select an RCM analysis in the table
  2. Select Copy
  3. Select the analysis version to copy from
  4. Select Ok
  5. Verify that the selected RCM analysis is copied

To delete an RCM analysis

  1. Select an RCM analysis in the table
  2. Select Delete
  3. Verify that the selected RCM analysis is deleted from the table

4.3.3 Update an RCM analysis

This functionality ensures that the analysis is updated with the latest data from the FMEA source (MADE model or FMEA excel).

To update an analysis created using Model-Based FMEA

  1. Select an analysis that was created using Model-Based FMEA (Figure 22)
  2. Click the Update icon
  3. Update the descriptions if required and review the RCM configuration and workflow (Figure 23)
  4. Click Next
  5. Update the Analysis options if required (Figure 24)
  6. Set Criticality Threshold if required (Figure 25)
  7. Review the updated imported FMEA data (Figure 26) — this window displays whether there have been any changes or not
  8. Click Finish to complete the update process

Note: If a contributor is not assigned, MADE will prompt to choose one after clicking Finish, as above.

The analysis has been updated with the latest data from the FMEA source, and the version number has been incremented (Figure 27).

To update an analysis created using FMEA data import workflow

  1. Select an analysis that was created using FMEA data import
  2. Click the Update icon
  3. Update the descriptions if required and review the RCM configuration and methodology (Figure 28)
  4. Click Next
  5. Browse and select an excel that contains the latest FMEA (Figure 29)
  6. Select an FMEA import configuration
  7. Click Next
  8. Review the warnings if any and click Close
  9. Review the updated imported FMEA data (Figure 30)
  10. Click Finish to complete the update process

Note: If a contributor is not assigned, MADE will prompt to choose one after clicking Finish, as above.

The analysis has been updated with the latest data from the FMEA source and the version number has been incremented (Figure 31).
