4 Mission Profile & Grouping Work Through

4.1 Open MPD Editor (Step 1)

The Mission Profile Definition editor is accessed from the main menu under Modeling, or by right-clicking on the System (Highest LOI) in the Project Explorer viewer. The MPD editor is accessible from all MADE modules.

Figure 2 shows the Modeling menu with: New Connection, New Item, New RBD Group (submenus); Activate Failure Diagram, Hazard Diagram (greyed out), Functional Diagram (greyed out), Mission Profile Definition (highlighted), Requirements, System Environment (greyed out), Unit Life Parameter; System Model, Bond Graph (greyed out), Failure Diagram, Functions (greyed out); RBD Model (greyed out), Maintenance Actions (greyed out), System Maintenance Editor; Environment Library, Sensor Library (greyed out); Annotations.

Figure 3 ("Overview page of the MPD editor") shows the "Mission Profile Definition" Overview/Management page: Mission Profile Manager (New/New Group/Import/Open/Copy/Delete buttons; table listing Type/Name/Modified — New Group ✓, Long Trip, Regular Trip, all "March 25 2026, 10:40..."); Mission Profile Summary (Name: New Group, Active Mission Profile checkbox, Description); Related Documents and Images (Documents/Images tables); Mission Profile - Parameters Chart ("No Mission Parameters have been selected to be graphed.").

The Overview/Management page contains 4 sections:

Section	Description
Mission Profile Manager	A table which lists created Mission Profiles & Mission Groups. The user can select buttons for creating new mission profiles/groups, open existing profiles, and copying or deleting selected profiles.
Mission Profile Summary	Displays the name and description fields (read-only) for a selected mission profile/group.
Related Documents and Images	Displays the documents and images tables. The user can view and export the files attached to each category.
Mission Profile – Parameters Chart	Displays the Parameters chart for a selected mission profile. The user can view one or more parameters and their respective values for the mission profile. This chart can also be exported as an image.

4.2 Create a New Mission Profile (Step 2)

To create a new Mission Profile:

• Select the New (Mission Profile) button.

This will automatically create and select a 'New Mission Profile', verifiable by the new Mission Profile Tab on the left.

Figure 4 ("Mission Profile Definition Page") shows the resulting page with left-side tabs: New Mission Profile (Overview), Phases and Segments, Specialized Phases, Mission Conditions, Mission Events, Mission Success Metrics, Functional Profile, Duty Cycles, Unit Life Configuration.

The Mission Profile Definition page contains 4 sections:

Section	Description
Mission Profile Details	Displays the name, duration (read-only), cumulative total (read-only), mission cycles and description fields for the mission profile.
Related Documents and Images	Displays the documents and images tables. The user can add, view and export the files attached to each category.
Mission Parameters	Allows parameters to be added to the mission profile which will be displayed in the parameter chart.
Mission Profile – Parameters Chart	Displays the Parameters chart for a selected mission profile. The user can view one or more parameters and their respective values for the mission profile. This chart can also be exported as an image.

4.3 Enter Mission Profile Details (Step 3)

To add details to the new mission profile for the Mission Profile Details section:

• Enter a display name for the mission profile in the Name field
• Enter the number of Mission Cycles in the Mission Cycles field
• Enter a brief description of the mission profile in the Description field

Figure 5 shows filled-in fields: Name = "New Mission Profile", Duration = "0sec" (read-only), Σ total = "N/A" (read-only), Mission Cycles = 1.00, Description (empty).

4.4 Related Documents and Images Section

To add document or image files to the new mission profile for the Related Documents and Images section:

• Select the Add Reference Document/Image button
• Select the Open button to open a selected file attached to the mission profile
• Select the Export button to export a selected file
• Select the Delete button to delete a selected file

Figure 6 shows the "Related Documents and Images" section with separate Documents and Images tables, each with Attachment/Date added columns and add/export/delete icon buttons.

4.5 Enter Mission Parameters (Step 4)

4.5.1 Mission Parameters

To add mission parameters to the new mission profile:

• Select the Add Mission Parameter button
• From the Create Mission Parameter dialog:
  • Enter the parameter name in the Name field
  • Enter the units in the Units field
  • Enter the starting value in the Initial Value field
  • Select the first check-box to Include in Mission Profile Graph
  • Select the second check-box to Set this Mission Parameter as the Aggregate Parameter
  • Select OK to close the dialog and display the new mission parameter in the table

The user can edit, move (up/down), or delete a selected parameter in the Mission Parameters table.

Figure 7 ("Edit Mission Parameter dialog") shows "Create Mission Parameter": Name = "Distance", Units = "km", Initial value = "0.00", both checkboxes checked — "Include in Mission Profile Graph" and "Set this Mission Parameter as the Aggregate Parameter".

Figure 8 ("Mission Parameters section") shows the resulting table: Graph ✓, Σ (radio, selected), Name = "Distance", Units = "km", Initial Value = 0.00.

4.5.2 Mission Profile – Parameters Chart Section

The Parameters chart displays mission parameters (including units and values) that have the checkbox Include in Mission Profile Graph selected, and segments & phases. This allows the user to visualize the change in parameters of the system during specific stages of the mission profile and make necessary adjustments. Initially, when a new mission profile is created and no phases & segments are present, the graph simply shows the initial mission parameter as a point.

Figure 9 shows the "Mission Profile - Parameters Chart" for a new profile: a single point at 0.00 on a "Phase or Segment (Elapsed Time)" x-axis.

To export the graph as a PNG image:

• Select the export icon
• Enter a filename and directory to save the exported image
• Select OK to close the dialog and initiate the file export

4.6 Complete Mission Phases & Segments Page (Step 5)

The next step in completing the mission profile is to create phases & segments. To open this page: select the Mission Phases and Segments tab.

The Phases and Segments page is divided into 3 sections:

Time Profile Graph	A table divided into 3 rows: Top row shows the division of phases and segments in terms of time (hours); second row shows the name of each phase and segment (segments are break-downs of the phase).
Mission Phases and Segments	Displays the ID, Code, Name, Duration of the Mission Phases and Segments and the hierarchical structure of phases and segments.
Phases/Segments Details	Data entry fields for Phases/Segments details covering parameters Code, Name, Duration, Description, Environment, Env. Characteristics, Mission Parameter (Current Value).

Figure 10 shows the "Regular Trip" mission profile's Time Profile Graph across phases 1–7 (Start-up, Ignition, Acceleration, Cruise, Turning, Cruise 2 [with sub-segments Highway → Highway A1/Highway B2 → Mountain Terrain], Deceleration, Shut-down) with per-phase durations (e.g. t=0hr, 5sec, 1min, 15min, 1min, 1hr split into 30min/15min/15min, 1min, 5sec), and the "Mission Phases and Segments" table listing IDs 1–7 with sub-IDs 1.1, 5.1 (with 5.1.1, 5.1.2), 5.2, and a "Segment Details" panel (Code, Name, Duration [hours], Description, Environment, Env. Characteristics, Mission Parameters: Name/Units/Previous Value/Current Value).

To create a Mission Phase:

• Select the Create New Phase button
• Enter a phase name in the Name field
• Enter a numerical value in the Duration field and select a unit of time from the drop-down menu
• Enter a description in the Description field
• From the Mission Parameter table:
  • Review the Mission Parameter(s) Previous Value
  • Select the cell(s) for Current Value and enter a new numerical value for the current Phase
• Verify that the Mission Phase is shown in the Mission Phases and Segments table and Time Profile Graph (green box)

Figure 11 shows a newly created "Acceleration" phase: Code (blank), Name = Acceleration, Duration = 1.000 minutes, Description = "A phase where the vehicle system accelerates to cruise velocity", Environment = Benign Environment, Env. Characteristics (blank), Mission Parameters: Distance / km / Previous Value 0.00 / Current Value 0.00.

To create a Mission Segment:

• Select a Mission Phase from the Mission Phases and Segments table
• Select the Create New segment button
• Enter a segment name in the Name field
• Enter a numerical value in the Duration field and select a unit of time from the drop-down menu
• Enter a description in the Description field
• From the Mission Parameter table:
  • Review the Mission Parameter(s) Previous Value
  • Select the cell(s) for Current Value and enter a new numerical value for the current Segment
• Verify that the Mission Segment is shown in the Mission Phases and Segments table and Time Profile Graph (green box)

Note 1: When a Mission Segment is created, it will overwrite Duration & Current Value for its corresponding Mission Phase.

Note 2: Once all mission phases and segments have been defined, the user can view the Mission Profile – Parameters chart in the Mission Profile Definition page to view the change in parameter values between phases and segments.

Figure 12 shows a newly created "Ignition" segment under the "Start-up" phase: Code (blank), Name = Ignition, Duration = 1.000 minutes, Environment = Benign Environment, Mission Parameters: Distance / km / Previous Value 0.00 / Current Value 0.00.

The user can rearrange mission phases and segments in the Mission Phases and Segments table:

• Select the navigation buttons (up/down arrows) to organize the order of phases/segments in the table
• Select the copy button to create a copy of a selected phase/segment
• Select the delete button to delete a selected phase/segment

The user can import details from another segment or phase:

• Select the Import button to initiate the import dialog
• Select the phase/segment to import its details into the current phase/segment from the import dialog
• Select OK to complete the import action
• Verify that the imported details are present in the current phase/segment
• Save changes

Figure 13 ("Import dialogue") shows "Import Details to Segment": a tree of Name/Duration — Start-up (0.017h) > Ignition (1m), Acceleration (1m) — with a warning: "Import the details of a selected Phase or Segment into the current Segment. Any existing details of the current Segment will be [overwritten]."
