3. Editing & Assigning Criticality

To generate an FMEA or FMECA in the SRA module, and to assess the failure paths that require attention, criticality factors must first be assigned to failure concepts in the failure diagram. The criticality method required will influence the type of fields that must be edited.

For example, FMECAs using the Risk Priority Number (RPN) method require Occurrence, Severity, and Difficulty of Detection factors. Alternatively, FMECAs using the Criticality Analysis (MIL-STD-1629A) method require Failure Effect Probability, FMR, Failure Rate, and Operating Time factors.

Two methods of editing criticality factors in a MADE model are: using the Properties viewer, or using the dedicated Criticality editor. The guide's example shows "Liquid Flow Rate" selected in the Criticality editor and a "Perforated" fault selected in the Properties viewer.
