Assigning Criticality Values to Failure Concepts & Causal Connections

The criticality values assigned to a criticality factor (e.g. Severity, Occurrence, Difficulty of Detection etc.) or Causal Connections (e.g. Mechanism to Fault) are used to calculate criticality in FMECA & FMEA reports (see Criticality Analysis). These factors are typically shown in the Criticality Editor or Properties viewer when a failure concept is selected in the Failure Diagram Editor.

The criticality factors shown depend on which failure concept or causal connection is selected by the user. For example, selecting a Fault will display Difficulty of Detection and Occurrence sliders in the Properties viewer.

Setting Criticality Values

To assign criticality values to a Failure Concept or Causal Connection:

1. Ensure the "Properties" area is visible (see Modules and Views for more information).
2. Click the appropriate Concept within a Failure Diagram or Functions form.
3. Select the "Criticality" tab in the Properties View.
4. Use the slider bar to change the value or enter specific numerical value in the numeric field on the right.
