MADE 3.9.1 User Manual > Chart Types
Relative Impact of Components on System Reliability
This chart type plots system reliability as a function of component/part failure
rate and MTTR.
It is used to give a visual representative breakdown of how a component/assemblies
or selection of components/assemblies will affect overall system reliability.

Steps to Generate Reliability Analysis Chart
Step 1: Select the Charts Analysis Icon in the MADE or RAM module.
Step 2: Selecting the 'Reliability Analysis' tab followed by the 'Relative
impact of Components on System Reliability' Chart will prompt additional sections to
appear (Options, Data and Chart).

Step 3: For the Options section, the chart title can be edited depending on
the type of analysis. 'FCM' or 'Simulation' are the options available to define the
propagation type.

Step 4: A component or subsystem can be chosen as an end effect item. This
determines how much of an impact another selected component or subsystem (see step 6)
will have on this item. Clicking on the 'Edit' button will open a new window for end
effect to be selected. In this case, the Pump Assembly is chosen as the end effect item
in order to understand how the motor and pump components affect the overall system.

Step 5: The Data section has been further split into 'Component Selection'
and 'End Effect Responses'. For component selection, clicking the 'Edit button' will
open a new window allowing the user to select the components/assemblies. Since this
analysis involves understanding relative impact, at least 2 or more items should be
selected. In this example, the Control Unit, Fuel Tank, Diesel Engine Subsystem and its
constituent components have been selected.

Step 6: The End Effects Responses section is where the flow responses of the
selected end effect item can be nominated depending on the user defined analysis.
Clicking the 'Edit button' will open a new window displaying the flow property of and
response of the end effect item. In this case, high and low flow property responses are
selected for the analysis.

Step 7: In the Chart section, click 'Generate chart'. During chart generation
an intermediate load screen may appear. Additional buttons provided: maximising chart
view (chart section expands to fill width of chart analysis editor), open in a new
window (generated chart is opened in a new 'view' or 'editor'), and export as an image.

The charting editor after system reliability chart is generated is shown below. The
chart shows the breakdown of reliability by item and percentage contribution.
