MADE 3.9.1 User Manual > Importing & Exporting
Importing CAD Files
MADE has the ability to import CAD files saved in the Standard for the Exchange of
Product (STEP) or Math cad Prime Document format (MCDX) model data format. MADE enables
the user to match imported items with pre-existing library or palette items and create
multiple levels of indenture.
A STEP-File can be imported directly from a CAD program or by using the import
functionality.
To import a STEP-File into MADE:
- Select "File → Import" from the Main Menu
- Select "Browse" to open the "Open" dialog
- Select a file (MADE, STEP, MCDX) from a directory
- Select the "Open" button to close the second dialog
- Select the "Next" button to proceed to the next page

The objective of the "Import STEP File Components" page is to match the
STEP Model item with model items from the Palette or MADE Libraries. This will
overwrite the STEP File item and enable the item to inherit any previously defined
failure or maintenance data. The page is divided into two main sections:
- Palette & MADE Library
- STEP Model Item
To complete this page:
Expand the Palette or MADE libraries to search for a matching item Note: Alternatively, use the search box to locate an item.
Select the "Add Library" button to insert any existing libraries created in MADE
Drag the palette/library item to the "Library/Palette Component" column next to its matching import item
Repeat the previous step until all imported items have been allocated with a palette/library item
Use the "Clear all replacements" button to remove the right column of palette/library items.
Select "Next" to proceed to the final page

level of indenture in the system.

- Select "Finish"
- Verify import in the system model
