WF47: MADE API Import
Pre-Requisites
- A. API Endpoint: an externally configured API endpoint.
- B. MADE Project: a project with an externally configured API Endpoint.
Detailed Steps
- Open the Import Wizard, via the integration toolbar using the New Project or generic import option. Note that the new import functionality can only be accessed when MADE does not have a project open.
- Create an API endpoint by inputting host information (Alias, URL), alternatively select an existing API Endpoint. Enter any required login detail and test connection to confirm that the Endpoint is available for export.
- Decision — Creating New Project? If yes, input directory, name, organization and currency information. If no, proceed directly to Step 4.
- Select an available (endpoint configured) system for import from your chosen endpoint location. Selection of a system includes the associated bill of materials (BOM).
- Select the resource category(s) you wish to import. Each resource category contains associated model parameters found in MADE. For a full description refer to API documentation.
- Filter selected items for import by performing a drag and drop operation between the imported and current model explorer. Items designated to your current model explorer will be imported into your MADE project.
- Execute the import operation by selecting Finish.
- Confirm import operation by viewing new model items in the Project Explorer.

- Step 1: Open Model Import Wizard — Main menu: Integration > Import... (opens import into an existing/open project) or Integration > Import New Project... (only enabled when no project is currently open).
- Step 2: Create or Select API endpoint — In "Import" dialog's "Select API Server" page, click green '+' to add a new host. In "API Server - New Host" dialog set Alias (e.g. "Echo-Server A"), URL (e.g. "http://localhost:8080"), Version (e.g. Legacy), Authentication (e.g. No Authentication), then click "Test Connection" (shows "Connection successful") and OK. Back on Select API Server page, enter Login Credentials if required and click "Try Login", then Next.
- Step 3: Input Project Details — (Only when creating a new project) "Import New Project" dialog, "Create a New Project" page: New Project Details fields — Project Directory (Browse...), Project Name (e.g. "Training API Test"), Analyst Name (e.g. "Sam"), Organization (e.g. "PHM Technology"), Currency (e.g. "$ (USD) - US Dollar"). Below, "Available Systems" list shows systems available from the endpoint (e.g. "Commercial Passenger Aircraft").
- Step 4: Select Available System — Select a system from the "Available Systems" list (e.g. "Commercial Passenger Aircraft"), then Next.
- Step 5: Select Resources to Import — "Select Data" page lists Data Categories with checkboxes and descriptions: Project (project-level info and API linking data), Items (grayed out/locked — EBOM and general item info such as Name, Description, LRU, Vendor), Systems (system contextual data related to Mission Profiles and FHA Functional Requirements), RAMS (EBOM plus Reliability/Availability fields like MTTF, MTTR, Failure Rate), Criticality (EBOM plus Criticality state e.g. Critical, Safety Critical, Mission Critical), Failures (EBOM plus failure concepts: Faults, Failure Conditions, Symptoms), Maintenance (EBOM plus Maintenance Action information), Functions (EBOM plus functional information: Function, Flows, Flow Property), Sensors (grayed out in this example — sensor data associated with model item test points). "Select All" / "Deselect All" buttons available.
- Step 6: Filter Resource Selection — "Add items to the Project" page ("Import" dialog): drag and drop items between the left "Imported Model" tree (e.g. Commercial Passenger Aircraft > Generator (MEP-105A) 1 > Alternator Unit, Control Unit, Coupling, Diesel Engine, Fuel Tank) and the right "Current Project Explorer" tree (e.g. (VS1) Vehicle System > FHA Functions, Mission Profiles, Coupling, Driveline, Generator (MEP-105A) 1, Power Generation, Vehicle) to select which items get imported into the current project.
- Step 7: Execute Import Operation — "Results" page shows a Summary: Endpoint, Request Method (e.g. "Import > Snapshot"), and Selected Data (e.g. "Maintenance, Systems, Items, Failures, Functions, RAMS, Project, Criticality"). Note: any unsaved changes will be automatically saved before the operation starts. Click Finish.
- Step 8: Model Import Complete — Newly imported items (e.g. "Generator (MEP-105A) 1") appear in the Project Explorer and in the System Model canvas (e.g. under Power Generation, alongside Coupling, Driveline, Vehicle).
