Criticality Analysis

Criticality of a failure mode can be assessed using one of the following approaches:

  1. Risk Priority Number

The Risk Priority Number is the multiplication of O, S and D rankings (out of 10) to produce a numerical criticality ranking (out of 1000).

  2. Fuzzy Criticality

Uses Fuzzy Logic to combine Fuzzy rankings of O, S and D using a rule base instead of crisp multiplication.

  3. Criticality Matrix / FAI

Plots the criticality number of items or failure modes against the severity category of its end-effect. FAI interprets the criticality matrix by assigning a single numerical criticality ranking to every cell in the matrix.
