3.3 NAVSEA Roadmap
The NAVSEA Roadmap page can be accessed by selecting the first tab "NAVSEA Road Map" on the left column of the Back-Fit RCM editor. This page contains four areas:
- Failure Path Menu: Located at the center-top area of the NAVSEA Road Map page, used to select and navigate between failure paths (faults or failure modes, depending on the failure diagram defined).
- Recommendation box: Located at the top-right corner of the NAVSEA Road Map page, and changes according to user decisions in the road map.
- Workflow Tabbed Menu: Located at the center-top area of the NAVSEA Roadmap page, underneath the Failure Path Menu. Selecting enabled boxes in this area allows navigation between different pages, as defined by the workflows (see Figures 3 & 4 in the Introduction/Workflows chapter).
- Workflow Page: The main area underneath the workflow tabbed menu, containing: different sections (grey boxes) of each step in the NAVSEA road map; Maintainable Item Meantime to Failure (MTTF) display in hours; Back-Fit RCM Time span in hours.
To include the Back-Fit RCM analysis in the Back-Fit RCM report, select the "Enable Back-Fit RCM" button located on the top-left corner of the screen. This button can also be accessed on the "Maintenance Association" and "Back-Fit Summary" pages.
3.3.1 Identify Failure Modes
"1. Identify Failure Modes" is the first page of the NAVSEA Road Map tab and displays the failure modes or faults of the component selected for the RCM Back-Fit analysis. It also displays all maintenance actions that have been created for the component (the Engine component, per the source guide's example).
3.3.1.1 Failure Path Menu
This section shows the failure path (fault or failure mode) that is currently being analyzed in the Back-Fit RCM process. The user begins by selecting a failure from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
- Select a failure from the drop-down menu, or
- Select the "Next Failure" or "Previous Failure" buttons to cycle through the failure modes or faults of the component
Example from the guide: selecting "Corroding of Inlet due to Corrosive Attack" as the failure to analyze.
3.3.1.2 Identified Failure Modes
This section lists all the failure paths from the maintainable item failure diagram. If a failure diagram has been defined, faults are listed. Expanding each fault will show its associated functional failure mode(s). The right column in the table shows the Recommendations for each failure path.

The list below matches each recommendation name to the description that most plausibly corresponds to it, based on internal consistency with the wording (e.g. "Analyze / Continue Analysis" logically pairs with "yet to be conducted", and the recommendations elsewhere in the guide — e.g. "Delete" being used when a maintenance action is no longer relevant — confirm the corrected pairing below differs from the raw extracted line order):

| Modify Task | The Back-Fit RCM analysis recommends modifying the current maintenance action to suit the given failure path. |
| Add new task | The Back-Fit RCM analysis recommends adding a new task on top of the current maintenance action for the given failure path. |
| Re-design | The Back-Fit RCM analysis recommends redesigning the maintainable item, as the current maintenance action does not effectively/adequately address the given failure path. |
| Other | The Back-Fit RCM analysis recommends additional changes as described in the Step 7 page (Improve Task narrative). |
3.3.1.3 Existing Maintenance Actions
This section shows all maintenance actions that are currently associated with the maintainable item in the Back-Fit RCM analysis. It contains several buttons:
- Select All: Checks the tick-boxes of all maintenance actions listed in the table.
- Select None: Unchecks the tick-boxes of all maintenance actions listed.
- Import: Opens the "Import Maintenance Action" dialog for the user to select and import Maintenance Actions from other model items in the system.
- Copy: When a maintenance action (MA) is selected in the table, selecting Copy enables the user to create a modified version of the selected MA.
- New: Opens the "Create a New Maintenance Action" dialog, allowing the user to enter information to create a new maintenance action.
For the guide's example, a new maintenance action is created and its checkbox is selected in the table. The user can continue by selecting "Failure Assessment" in the tabbed menu.
