WF29: Search System Model

Pre-requisites

  • MADE Project: a configured project with model items defined.
  • Failure Concepts: defined in the failure diagram of model items.

Detailed Descriptions (numbered steps)

  1. Access 'Search…' under 'Edit' in the main menu bar.
  2. Determine if searching by Display Name or by MADE Failure Concept Taxonomy.
  3. Enter the target display name in the text search field to search model for that input text.
  4. Select Failure Concepts to be used as search terms by dragging it from list into the Search Terms. There is a search field to filter the list. More than one Failure Concept, across different categories and types, may be selected.
  5. Select 'Search' to begin the process.
  6. Access the Search Viewer which should automatically open, by default, in the bottom right corner of MADE.
  7. If search unsuccessful, modify search parameters until targets are found. Use the button, in the top right corner of the Search viewer, that has the tooltip "Modify Search Terms".
  8. Location of target may be opened through the results listed in the Search viewer.

Decision points

  • Search by Display Name? — Yes → Enter Display Name; No → Select MADE Failure Concept Taxonomy.
  • Search Successful? — No → loop back to Access Search; Yes → System Model Searched.

Screenshot walkthrough (captions/labels extracted)

Step 1: Access Search

  • 'Edit' menu: Undo (Ctrl+Z), Redo (Ctrl+Y), Cut (Ctrl+X), Copy (Ctrl+C), Paste (Ctrl+V), Delete (Delete), Select All (Ctrl+A), Find / Replace, Search... (highlighted, Alt+Shift+T), Advanced Properties, Project Properties.

Step 3: Enter Display Name

  • "Search" dialog: "Drag and drop your Failure Concepts into the Search Terms List." "Text Search" — Containing Text: "Coupling". "Search by Failure Concept": Failure Concepts tree (Assembly and reassembly, Design, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Operation, Transportation) with search field, Search Terms list (empty), radio/severity icon filters, Remove/Clear buttons. Buttons Search, Cancel.
  • Second instance: Containing Text "Damage", same Failure Concepts tree, empty Search Terms.

Step 4: Select MADE Failure Concept Taxonomy

  • "Search" dialog: Text Search field empty. "Search by Failure Concept": Failure Concepts search field "Damage"; tree expanded: Assembly and reassembly > Environmental protection > Damaged surface protection; Material quality > Surface damage; Maintenance > Environmental protection > Damaged surface protection (selected/highlighted); Material quality > Surface damage; Operation, Transportation (collapsed). "Search Terms" list: "Damaged surface protection" (added). Severity filter icons and Remove/Clear buttons. Buttons Search, Cancel.

Step 6: Access Search Viewer

  • Tabbed panel: Problems, Connection Viewer, Criticality Viewer, Search (active). "6 references found" tree: Vehicle System > Power Generation > Diesel Engine > Coupling 1 > Damaged surface protection; Engine > Damaged surface protection; Injector Pump > Damaged surface protection; Lift Pump > Damaged surface protection; Fuel Tank > Inlet > Damaged surface protection; Lining > Damaged surface protection.

Step 8: System Model Searched

  • "Coupling 1" Failure Diagram viewer: nodes "Untimely maintenance actions (Coupling 1)", "Corrosive contaminant (Coupling 1)", "Damaged surface protection (Coupling 1)" (highlighted/selected, orange), "Insufficient cleaning (Coupling 1)" feeding into "Corrosive attack (Coupling 1)"; "High temperature (Coupling 1)", "Maximum continuous use time exceeded (Coupling 1)" feeding into "Creep stress rupture (Coupling 1)"; "High mechanical load (Coupling 1)", "Imbalanced mechanical loads (Coupling 1)" feeding into "Torsion deformation (Coupling 1)". "Corrosive attack" and "Creep stress rupture" feed into "Fractured (Coupling 1)"; "Torsion deformation" feeds into "Twisted (Coupling 1)"; both "Fractured" and "Twisted" feed into "Couple Mechanical - rotational Angular velocity (Coupling 1)" via OR-type gate nodes.
  • Below, tabbed panel: Problems, Search (active), Current Diagnostic Analysis, Test Points. "6 references found" tree: Vehicle System > Power Generation > Diesel Engine > Coupling 1 > Damaged surface protection (highlighted); Engine, Injector Pump, Lift Pump > Damaged surface protection each; Fuel Tank > Inlet, Lining > Damaged surface protection each.
