Diagnostic Analysis

Diagnostic Analysis is a way of establishing the optimal combination of sensors that will be used to monitor failures throughout a system. This analysis can be used to optimize these sensor sets using a set of criteria, e.g. weight, cost, or coverage. It is also used to further optimize combinations of sensors for a system where little or no diagnostic capabilities have been designed. The aim of the diagnostic analysis is to provide a list of sensor combinations that will provide sufficient coverage and a diagnostic rule set to uniquely identify failures in a system.

There are two types of diagnostic analyses in MADE:

  • Automated — Used to generate sensor sets based on an analysis of the existing model. Sensors can be allocated to locations that the analysis requires.
  • User-defined — Used to manually create one or more sensor sets. The sensors and sensor locations are assigned manually based on user preference.

To open the Diagnostic Analysis editor:

  1. Select (right-click) any location in the System Model and select Diagnostic Analyses
    • Alternatively, select Analyses > Diagnostic Analyses from the main menu

4.5 Overview Page

When the Diagnostic Analysis editor is opened, it will automatically open the Overview / Management page. This page displays existing diagnostic analyses for all levels of indenture in the table. The user can create an Automated or User-defined diagnostic analysis using the New button, while existing analyses can be managed by selecting the Open, Copy or Delete buttons.
