2 Overview

The Load from Library feature in MADE provides users with a structured, interactive method for importing and integrating existing item data from the Library or Palette into an active project. It enables efficient reuse of modelled content by allowing users to either replace or append a specific data category.

3 Accessing the Feature

To access Load from Library from the main menu:

  • Navigate to the main menu
  • Select File > Load from Library

To access Load from Library from an item:

  • Select an item, either in Project Explorer or in a System Model
  • Right-click, select Load from Library

Figure 1 ("Access Load from Library from Main Menu") shows the File menu with New, Open, Close Project, Close All Editors, Save All, Save Project As, Save to Library, Load from Library, Print, Import, Export options.

Figure 2 ("Access Load from Library by right-clicking model items") shows a right-click context menu on a model item (e.g., "Driveline") with options: System Model, Failure Diagram, Bond Graph, Functions, Maintenance Actions, Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Zoom In, Zoom Out, End Effect Item, Response Paths, Propagate All..., Override Failure Diagram, Failure Injection, Response Simulation, Load from Library, Save to Library, Advanced Properties.

4 Feature Workflow

4.1 Step 1: Select Action

The first step is to decide whether to replace or append data. Choosing to replace data will result in the specified items having all of their data overwritten by the library items that they are being replaced with. If Append Data is selected, then the specified items will keep all of their existing data, and it will only take data from the library items for fields that have not yet been specified in the original items. This option is only applicable to Functions, Failures, and Maintenance, because the other categories (Items, RAMS, Criticality) all have default data that cannot be removed completely.

To select an action:

  • Select either 'Replace Data' or 'Append Data'
  • Select Next >

Figure 3 ("Selecting either Replace or Append") shows the "MADE - Load from Library Wizard" dialog, Select Action page, Load Method radio options: Replace Data — "The existing data in selected Project item will be overwritten with data from the matching Palette/Library item"; Append Data — "Data from the matching Palette/Library item will be appended to selected Project item without removing any existing data. (Only applicable for Functions, Failures, and Maintenance)".

4.2 Step 2: Select Data Categories

Any of the following data categories can be selected to replace data in the specified items. Only the final three categories in the list below are applicable to appending data to the specified items:

  • Items (Identification data like LCN, Vendor, Description, etc.)
  • RAMS (Reliability metrics like MTTF, MTTR, Failure rate, distribution, etc.)
  • Criticality (Tags such as safety critical, mission critical, etc.)
  • Functions (Functions, flows, properties, etc.)
  • Failures (Failure causes, faults, mechanisms, conditions, connections, etc.)
  • Maintenance (Corrective/preventive actions, scheduled actions, condition-based actions, etc.)

To select data:

  • Tick the boxes for the data categories which are to replace or append data in the model
  • Select Next >

Figure 4 ("Select Data Categories when 'Replace Data' has been selected") shows the Select Data page with a Data Categories checklist and descriptions: Items — "Items include general information about the item. (i.e. Name, Description, LRU, Vendor, etc.)"; RAMS — "RAMS includes reliability & availability information of the item. (i.e. MTTF, MTTR, Failure Rate, etc.)"; Criticality — "Criticality incorporates the criticality state of the item. (i.e. Critical, Safety Critical, Mission Critical, etc.)"; Functions — "Functions includes functional information of the item. (i.e. Function, Flows, Flow Property, etc.)"; Failures — "Failures contain a list of failure concepts for the item. (i.e. Faults, Failure Conditions, Symptoms, etc.)"; Maintenance — "Maintenance includes maintenance information of the item. (i.e. Maintenance Actions, Maintenance Tasks, etc.)". Select All / Deselect All buttons provided.

4.3 Step 3: Perform Item Mapping

In the Perform Item Mapping window, the left panel displays the Palette and Library folders with System, Component, and Part items. These are the items that contain data which is to be included in the model. The right panel shows the Project Explorer item hierarchy from the current MADE project. In this window, items from the Palette and Library are matched to items in the model, to indicate where the model items will receive new data from. This is achieved by dragging items from the left panel into the desired row in the right panel.

To perform item mapping:

  • Drag and drop Palette/Library items onto project items to establish a mapping
  • Remove any unwanted mappings using the 'Clear Selected' and 'Clear All' buttons
  • Select Next >

4.4 Step 4: Overview

The Overview window provides a summary of the model items and respective data categories being modified. This is an opportunity to verify that the selections are correct before finalizing the changes. When this has been confirmed, the Status column will populate to indicate that the data has been replaced or appended successfully.

To confirm the changes:

  • Select Finish

4.5 Step 5: Result

MADE will process the mapping and apply the updates as defined. Once complete, a summary of results will be displayed, containing the list of items that were updated, the specific categories that were modified, and a completion status indicating success or failure for each operation. All actions will be logged in the Annotations Window for traceability and audit.

Figure 7 ("STEP 5: Result") shows the Result page: Selected Action = "Replace Data: The existing data in selected Project item will be overwritten with data from the matching Palette/Library item."; Summary tree listing target items (Planetary Gearbox FL, Powertrain (4x4), Half Shaft RL, Planetary Gearbox RL) each expanded into Items/RAMS/Criticality/Functions/Failures/Maintenance rows, all with Status = "✓ Complete"; a Close button.

4.6 Important Consideration: Data Dependency Between Categories

When using the Load from Library feature, it is important to understand that certain data categories in MADE are interdependent. Selecting only a subset of resources without their associated dependencies can result in incomplete or incorrect data population.
