4. Component & Subsystem Test Points
The PHM module allows the user to capture pre-existing (built-in or legacy) sensors integrated with the system in the form of component and subsystem test points. Test point sensors are used to detect a symptom or mitigate a failure mode and should be captured in the system model to understand the inherent diagnostic capabilities in the design. By adding a test point sensor, flow properties & symptoms are monitored and will not require additional coverage in automated diagnostic analyses.
4.1 Accessing the Test Point Editor
To access a component or subsystem test point:
- Select (right-click) a component or subsystem
- Select Component Test Point from the menu (alternatively, the first two steps can be repeated in the Project Explorer viewer)
This will open the component/subsystem test point editor which displays the Test Point Details, Sensor Allocation, Sensor Library and Recently Used Sensors sections.
4.2 Details Section
The Details section of the Test Point editor allows the user to view the test point name, total number of sensors, total sensor weight, and estimated sensor POD (sensitivity). The user can add a description and enable the component/subsystem test point to include its response in a sensor coverage analysis.
Assigning a sensor to a test point will prompt the user to select the checkbox to enable the test point for its coverage to be included for further sensor analyses. The test point can also be enabled or disabled manually by selecting (left click) the checkbox beside "Enable Component Test".
To fill in the Details section of a Test Point:
- Select the Enable Component Test Point checkbox to include the test point in sensor analyses
- Select (left click) the Name and Description to fill in these details
- Review the Total Sensors/Weight & Component POD fields when sensors are allocated
4.3 Sensor Allocation Section
The Sensor Allocation Section displays sensors assigned to a flow property or symptom of a component/subsystem. This section is completed by identifying and assigning the appropriate sensors from the Sensor Library. Sensors assigned to symptoms impact the coverage of associated functional flows depending on the connections and failure mode ratios.
To allocate test point sensors:
- Search the Sensor Library for the appropriate flow/symptom sensor required
- Drag the sensor to the nominated flow property/symptom
Note: Components/Subsystems with test point sensors are indicated on the system model using a dedicated icon (see Figure 38: Component Test Point Icons in System Model).
4.4 Component Test Point Reporting
A Component Test Point Report provides a summary of a selected component or subsystem in a system. This report shows the Probability of Detection (POD) of all flow properties and symptoms for a specified item, as well as sensor details and parameters.
To create a TP report:
- Select Reports > Report Wizard in the main menu
- Select Component Test Point, then select Next
- Select the component or subsystem
- Select Finish to generate the report
