- MADE Project: A configured project.
Detailed Descriptions (numbered steps)
- Access Annotation Policy under 'Preferences' in the main menu bar.
- Click the 'New' button to create a new annotation policy, defining a Name and Description.
- To exclude model parameters, select 'Edit exclusions…' and move target Model Parameter Variables, from 'Available Variables' to 'Excluded Variables'.
- Select Confidence Level of Sources from drop-down menu, to assign Confidence percentages to relevant sources.
- Select 'OK' to confirm edits to the annotation policy.
- To apply Annotation Policy, select corresponding tick-box and click 'Apply' / 'Apply and Close'.
Fields referenced in the diagram

Step 1: Access Annotation Policy
- 'Preferences' menu: Application Preferences, Project Preferences, Annotation Policy (highlighted), Library Management, Modeling Preferences, Organization Details, Warning Preferences, Bond Analysis Preferences, FCM Threshold Preferences, Criticality Profile Editor, Customize Taxonomy. Project Explorer tree: Vehicle System [4/29] > Functions, Coupling (selected), Driveline [11], Power Generation [3/14] > Functions, Control Measures, Control Unit, Diesel Engine [8] > Functions, Air Filter, Coupling 1, Engine, Governor, Injector Pump, Lift Pump, Primary Fuel Filter, Secondary Fuel Filter; Fuel Tank [3]; Vehicle.
Step 2: Create New Annotation Policy
- "Preferences (Filtered)" dialog, left nav "Annotation Policy" selected (also Auto Save, Features, General, Language, Libraries, Modeling, Organization Details, Problems, Propagation Table, RCM, Reporting, User Profile). "Annotation Policies" table (Current/Policy name/Confidence/Description): MADE Minimal (Optimistic, "The MADE Minimal Annotation Policy p..."), MADE Hybrid (checked/current, Agnostic, "The MADE Hybrid Annotation policy pr..."), MADE Strict (Pessimistic, "The MADE Strict Annotation policy prov..."). "Policy Controls": New (highlighted), Edit, Delete buttons. Buttons "Restore Defaults", "Apply", "Apply and Close", "Cancel".
- "Create Annotation Policy" dialog: Policy name "New Annotation Policy", Description "For demonstration purposes." Checkbox "Exclude Unchanged Annotations from Coverage" (unchecked). "Excluded model parameters:" button "Edit exclusions..." — "No Model Parameters are currently excluded." "Confidence level of sources:" dropdown "Agnostic". "Resulting confidence level" table (Source/Confidence): Engineer 20%, Peer Reviewed Discussion 50%, Published Database 60%, OEM 70%, Operating Data 90%. Buttons OK, Cancel.
Step 3: Edit Model Parameter Exclusions
- "Annotation Policy - Model Parameter Exclusions" dialog: "Add or remove Model Parameters to the Exclusions List. Excluded Model Parameters create events with an importance of 'Optional'. Annotations can still be made for these changes, but will not be prompted for." "Available Variables" table (Variable/Importance): Adjusted P(f) (Important), Adjusted P(f) Type (Important), Applied Environment (Required), Baseline Environment (Required), Baseline Pf (Important), Bond Type (Required), Causal Probability (Required), Causal Strength (Required), Cause Exclusion (Required), etc. "Excluded Variables" table: empty — "No variables are currently excluded. Drag variables from the list of Available Variables to exclude them." Transfer arrow buttons between lists. Buttons OK, Cancel.
Step 4: Edit Confidence Level of Sources
- "Create Annotation Policy" dialog: "Confidence level of sources:" dropdown expanded showing Pessimistic, Agnostic (highlighted/selected), Optimistic. "Resulting confidence level" table: Source/Confidence — Engineer 20%, Peer Reviewed Discussion 50%, Published Database 60%, OEM 70%, Operating Data 90%.
Step 5: Confirm Edits to Annotation Policy
- Same "Create Annotation Policy" dialog fully populated: Policy name "New Annotation Policy", Description "For demonstration purposes.", Excluded model parameters "No Model Parameters are currently excluded.", Confidence level of sources "Agnostic", Resulting confidence level table as above. Buttons OK, Cancel.
Step 6: Apply Annotation Policy
- "Preferences (Filtered)" dialog: "Annotation Policies" table now includes new row: Current (checked) "New Annotation Policy", Confidence "Agnostic", Description "For demonstration purposes." — shown alongside MADE Minimal, MADE Hybrid, MADE Strict (all unchecked/locked). "Policy Controls": New, Edit, Delete. Buttons "Restore Defaults", "Apply", "Apply and Close" (highlighted), "Cancel".
