Reliability–Centred Maintenance

There are two types of Reliability–Centred Maintenance:

• Back–Fit Reliability–Centred Maintenance
• Classic Reliability–Centred Maintenance

Back–Fit Reliability–Centred Maintenance

Back-Fit RCM is a methodology to validate existing system maintenance requirements

captured over its operational life. It forms part of a continuous improvement process that

ensures any changes made to maintenance requirements are effective and fundamentally sound.

The Back-Fit RCM analysis validates existing maintenance tasks by using the latest

operational and maintenance information and adjusting task intervals and content where

appropriate – this increases the effectiveness of the current maintenance program.

To open the Back–Fit Reliability–Centred Maintenance editor:

1. Right-click on a component
2. Select "Back–Fit RCM"

Classic Reliability–Centred Maintenance

Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) analysis is defined as "a process used to determine

what must be done to ensure that any physical asset continues to do what its users want it

to do in its present operating context" (Moubray J., 1997). RCM analysis allows the user

to identify component failure modes, form a response to a failure mode by performing a

breakdown or preventative maintenance plan and document this information in a structured

approach.

To open the Classic Reliability–Centred Maintenance editor:

1. Select "Analyses" on the Main Menu
2. Select "Classic RCM"
