What is the Mission Profile? How does this relate to the System/Project? Why do Mission Profile before the Model? What does solution-independent Mission Profile mean?

DISCUSSION 1.4.1 MISSION PROFILE OVERVIEW

The Mission Profile defines the various different ways the system can be used as well as the duration of operation for the System/Project. The duration of the Mission Profile will be utilized for reliability calculations. Further details of the Mission Profile can be added as the model is developed such as Duty Cycle, Success Metrics, etc.

To open the Mission Profile Editor:

Method 1:

   Select Modeling  Mission Profile Definitions
      from the menu bar

Method 2:

   Right-click system in the Project Explorer viewer
   Select Mission Profiles from the menu

The Mission Profile Overview page is where missions are defined It also provides a summary of the profile as it is built

To create and begin defining a new mission profile:

Select to create a new mission profile in the Mission Profiles list

Once a new mission profile is created this will automatically load the New Mission Profile page

Note: You can also open a mission profile/group by double-clicking the item in the table

Note: An Active Mission Profile refers to the one currently assigned to the model

To enter Mission Profile Definition Details, in the Mission Profile Details section:

   Edit Mission Profile name to: Regular Trip
   Verify Number of Mission Cycles as: 1.00
   Enter mission profile description: A short duration trip for the vehicle, assuming a benign

                                              environment and low operational loading.

Phases, Sub-phases & Segments are defined to divide a mission profile into smaller blocks of time Each Phase, Sub-phase & Segment can be optionally assigned a code Item Duration of Operation is defined based on durations of the Phases/Sub-phases/Segments & Duty

Cycle allocation Used to allocate Environment & Environmental Characteristics to Phases/Sub-phases/Segments Used to track and edit Mission Parameters for each Phases/Sub-phases/Segments

To define Phases, in the Mission Phases and Segments table:

   Select to create a new phase
   Enter a phase name: Start-up
   Verify Duration is 0.000 hours (will be inherited from Segment)
   Enter description: A mission phase for actions required to start-up the vehicle for use.

To define a Segment, in the Mission Phases and Segments table:

   Select Start-up Phase in Mission Phases & Segments Table
   Select to create a new segment
   Enter a Phase name as: Ignition
   Enter duration as 5 seconds (verify Start-up phase inherits duration)
   Enter description: A mission segment for igniting the engine.

Specialized Phases are a specific variation of the mission phase that is not part of typical expected operation but that might be experienced regularly

To create a new Specialized Phase:

   Select the Specialized Phases tab to open the page
   Select to create a new specialized phase
   Populate the following details:

          Code: SP1
          Name: Autonomous Parking

          Description: Automated system for parking a

                             vehicle without driver intervention.
          Select Phase and Segments: Deceleration

DISCUSSION 1.4.7 MISSION CONDITIONS (IN CONTEXT OF ARP4761 REV A)

Operational condition is an expression of the expected state of a system (e.g., weight, speed, temperature, pressure, position) and the associated tasks being performed by the system's operators or components at a specific moment during system operation.

Environmental condition is an expression of the expected environment in which the system is operating at a given moment.

To create a new Operational Condition:

   Select the Mission Conditions tab to open the page
   Select the Operational Conditions tab
   Select to create a new operational condition
   Populate the following details:

          Code: OC1
          Name: Ignition Key Turned to "ON"
          Description: When the driver turns the ignition key to

             the "ON" position, activating the electrical system,
             but before starting the engine.
          Select Phases and Segments: Ignition (Start)

Create new Operational Conditions with the following details:

Code Name Description Phases and Segments Specialized Phases OC2 Engine Coolant Autonomous Parking OC3 Temperature Measuring the temperature of the engine coolant to Start-up (During) Throttle Input ensure it is within the required range for safe start-up. OC4 Engine Load The driver applies pressure on the accelerator pedal, OC5 indicating the desired increase in engine power and Parking speed. Manoeuvre Planning Assessing the load placed on the engine during Acceleration (Start, During, End) acceleration to optimize fuel delivery and performance.

                  The system plans the path and trajectory for the car
                  to safely navigate into the parking space.

DISCUSSION 1.4.8 MISSION EVENTS (IN CONTEXT OF ARP4761 REV A)

Operational events are distinct occurrences and system operations which are only performed as a response to specific occurrences or failures.

Environmental events are the abnormal environmental occurrences that is considered abnormal for the system and its operation.

   Select to create a new mission event
   Populate the following details:

          Code: ME1
          Name: Collision Avoidance
          Description: Vehicle system taking evasive

             actions to avoid a potential collision.
          Type: Operational
          Occurrence: 1E-5
          Justification: This event occurs when the vehicle system detects

                             an imminent collision and initiates evasive actions.
          Select Specialized Phase check boxes: Autonomous Parking
          Operational Conditions: Parking Manoeuvre Planning

Mission Success Metrics refer to requirements or targets that need to be fulfilled for the given mission These can be used to identify & map system functions (flow properties) in a completed system model

To create a new Mission Success Metric:

   Select the Mission Success Metrics tab to open the page
   Select to create a new mission success metric
   Populate the following details:

          Name: Transport Personnel
          Success criteria: 5 people and luggage
          Minimum success criteria as: 2 people and luggage

Note: System Flow Properties table shows flow properties only when a system model with system-level function and flows are created.
