14 Find & Replace

For large system models, it is often necessary to review criticality, reliability or causality values. MADE features a Find & Replace tool to locate and edit model parameters or information.

To open the Find / Replace tool:

• Select Search → Find/Replace from the main menu

(The Edit menu also contains: Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Select All, Find / Replace, Search... (Alt+Shift+T), Advanced Properties, Project Properties.)

Once the Search/Replace editor appears, the user can search the MADE system for specific items, parameters or information matching the search terms. Typing * or ? symbols will list all items, item parameters & information.

To conduct an item search (Basic tab):

• Type the item display name in the search field then select Search
• All results are displayed in the Search Result section

The Basic search page description reads: "Use the Text search to find model items by name or synonym. The text search will provide partially matches for model items. If you want to search based on model parameters use the Advanced search. (? = any character, * = any sequence of characters)"

To re-assign a search result value (Replace tab):

• Select the Replace tab
• Select a model parameter from the drop-down menu
• Enter a new value in the field under New value for model parameter
• Select Update All or select individual check-boxes to apply the value to search results
• Select Replace and verify the change in values in the Search Result section

The Replace page description reads: "Use the replace feature to quickly change model parameters on model items." Fields: "Select the model parameter to change" (dropdown), a Filter checkbox, Update All / Update None buttons, "New value for model parameter" text field, Replace button.

Example dropdown list of selectable model parameters: Characteristic Life, Controllability, Delay Time, Difficulty of Detection, Duration of Operation, Failure Effect Probability, Failure Mode Ratio, Item Number, Mean Time To Repair, Mean Time to Failure, Name, Part Failure Rate, Probability/Occurrence, Response Narrative, Severity, Slope, Software Control (list continues, scrollable).

14.1 Conducting an Advanced Search

Advanced search can be used if the search requires detailed search & replace queries e.g. "parts that have a mean time to repair of 1.0".

The following search criteria are used to create a more detailed search:

• Equal
• Less Than
• Greater Than
• Less or Equal
• Greater or Equal
• Not Equal

The criterion that defines the search terms is property based. Once a property has been selected, an operator and value can then be selected. This allows the user to find components with any values equal to, higher or lower than a set value.

To perform an advanced search:

• Select between the options All search terms must match and at least one search term to match.
• Select (left click) the plus icon to open the New Search Term dialog
• Select the model parameter, operator and value in the dialog
• Select OK to close the dialog.
• Select Search to find search results matching the search terms.
• Go to Replace page to edit the required parameters.

Example advanced search: Model parameter = "Mean Time to F[ailure]", Operator = "Equal", Value = "1.00" — Search Result tree returns matching items nested under Vehicle System > Power Generation > Diesel Engine: Injector Pump, Lift Pump.
